Erik's Weekly Fitness Tip | Failure

Have You Ever?

Have you ever come up short?  Hell yes you have, we all have!!

Have you ever won a game, event, challenge, or some silly contest? Sure you have!

What Did Winning Teach You?

Not much, except to continue down the same path because there is no reason to change things up.

What Did Failure Teach You?

Failure teaches you to tweak many things:

  • the how
  • the why
  • the what

Failure forces us to dig deep and continue to push forward, because the other option, giving up, is quite frankly not an option.

Things To Remember When You Fail

  1. Remember that everyone has been there regardless of talent, genetics, age, or sex.
  2. If everything came easy to you, are you really and truly going to appreciate the effort and accomplishment that you made? Probably not.

Yes, failure, depending on the circumstances and stakes, can feel like a kick in the teeth.  But that doesn’t mean the game is over. See case in point below.

I’m from Illinois and grew up watching the baddest cat ever to play hoops, Michael Jordan.  Most people see MJ as the best athlete ever to walk this planet, but Nike made us remember in the commercial called “Failure” that even the greats come up short. MJ took his failures and used them as the fire in his belly to become the biggest legend in sports.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.  I’ve lost almost 300 games.  26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.  I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life.  And that is why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan

Take that to heart, learn from your failures and change the outcome next time.
